ThermiSmooth- a non-invasive option using ThermiRF technology
Submitted by drgailhumble on September 25, 2014
As I mentioned in my previous blog, ThermiTight is a minimally invasive procedure done with a local anesthetic, usually in less than an hour (depending on the area being treated). ThermiSmooth uses the same technology, but is performed using a specially designed hand piece which delivers precise heating to the area being treated.
Studies show that collagen under the skin will shrink when heat is applied. The ThermiSmooth hand piece delivers heat in a precise and controlled manner which is monitored by the physician. Heating the collagen under the skin begins a process where the skin begins to tighten, and new collagen can be produced over time.
Here’s how it works: after applying a small amount of gel to the area, the ThermiSmooth hand piece is gently moved in a circular motion, gradually heating up the skins surface. The ThermiRF computer automatically adjusts the temperature to ensure accurate heating of the area. The physician spends about 5 minutes on small “zones” within the treatment area. Treatments are usually repeated several times to achieve the desired results.
ThermiSmooth works well on many areas of the face, and is especially suited for under the eyes, around the mouth, the forehead, eyelids, and neck. While patients may require several treatments, most patients will see some results after the first treatment. Full results will be noticeable over the following 3-6 months.
