It has long been known that platelet rich plasma can be used successfully to help with wound healing, skin regeneration and transplant hair graft survival. Today it is has been shown that platelet rich plasma may actually wake up dormant hair follicles. This is a huge potential beak through in treating hair loss and growing hair. Blood is made of about 93% red blood cells, 1% white blood cells and 6% plasma and platelets. When platelets are activated by the body they release proteins now as growth factors. The basis of the treatment of platelet rich plasma for alopecia is that treatment one time a month will release these growth factors. A recent study suggests that treatment with PRP can stop and reverse hair miniaturation. PRP treatments may be combined with other treatments. This treatment works well for alopecia as well as male pattern hair loss.
