Perlane is one of the many injectable fillers that Dr. Gail Humble uses on her patients in her Los Angeles office. Perlane is primarily made up of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our skin that is responsible for its elasticity and youthful plumpness. As we age, hyaluronic acid depletes and wrinkles begin to develop. Perlane restores the hyaluronic acid we lose.

Perlane is composed of larger gel particles than Restylane. This makes Perlane ideal for volumizing deeper wrinkles such as those in the nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth), the pre-jowl area, the cheek area, and the temple area. Perlane can also be used in conjunction with Restylane and Juvederm for a more natural finish. The larger gel particles in Perlane can target facial tissue on a deeper level, while the smaller gel particles in Restylane and Juvederm can be layered on top to provide a softer and smoother finish. Hyaluronic acid also depletes in the lips as we age, resulting in a thinner smile. Perlane can be used as a lip plumper and lifter, filling in thin lips and providing a plumper pout.

The Perlane procedure takes approximately thirty minutes to complete, but it can vary depending on the extent of your treatment. Prior to injection Dr. Humble can apply a numbing cream to your face, or lidocaine can be mixed in with the Perlane in the syringe. Both methods work to reduce the amount of discomfort. Injection of Perlane is an outpatient procedure with little to no downtime. Side effects can include redness, swelling and bruising in the injection site. These are normal reactions and generally subside within a few days. Makeup can be applied to cover the reactions and most patients can resume their daily activities after the procedure.

Perlane typically lasts between six and twelve months, depending on your age, skin type and lifestyle. Lip injections generally last a shorter amount of time.
