Everything you need to know about Hormone Pellet Therapy

Submitted by admin on October 31, 2019

Hello to all of my patients!

It is rare I add anything new to my practice and when I do add a new procedure is has been vetted and proven to be safe. It must also be life enhancing and worth the investment for both my patients as well as myself. I think a lot of you know I had an 8-level thoracic fusion in April after breaking multiple vertebrae in my thoracic(chest) spine. The reason was bone loss. (as well as riding 60 miles a day across Mongolia)!J I weight train almost daily, and I have a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet. I was on estrogen crème and even took Calcium and Vitamin D. Imagine then my surprise was my bone scan showed osteopenia. This is the prodrome to osteoporosis. I did some investigation and found out that hormone pellets can actually re-densify your bone at 8.3% per year. You have all heard me say boney remodeling starts as early as the 20s, what if this didn’t have to occur?

I wanted to let you know about an exciting addition I am offering in my practice. I am pleased to presentBioTE® Medical Hormone Pellet Therapy for women and men. The bioTe system allows me to specifically tailor the dosages of hormones to each woman’s or man’s specific needs. Pellet therapy adds to the options we already to offer to aid in aging gracefully.

The term “bio-identical” means that the biochemical structure of the hormone is perfectly matched to the hormone produced in a woman’s or man’s body by his or her endocrine system. Bio-identical hormones are plant-based, natural substances. These compounded bio-identicals can be matched to each person’s unique needs, something that’s impossible with mass-manufactured products.

WHAT IS HORMONE PELLET THERAPY?

Pellet Therapy uses hormones derived from natural plant sources to replicate the body’s normal hormonal levels. Patients have found that bio-identical hormone replacement therapy with pellet implants is extremely effective. Implants, placed under the skin, consistently release small, physiologic doses of hormones providing optimal therapy.

Unlike typical oral, injectable or transdermal forms of therapy, which produce “roller coaster” hormone levels. Medical Hormone Pellet Therapy, is the only method of hormone therapy that provides sustained hormone levels throughout the day without any “roller coaster” effect. Men will require pellet placement every 5 to 6 months and women every four months.

Because the hormones used are completely natural, BioTE® Medical Hormone Pellet Therapy is ideal for patients wanting the benefits of a natural hormone, without the drawbacks of a synthetic.

WHAT ARE HORMONE PELLETS?

BioTE® pellets contain a natural plant source of estrogen and testosterone. A compounding pharmacist, using strict federal guidelines, compounds the estrogen and testosterone utilized in the pellets. These pellets, which are smaller than a grain of rice, are placed in the fatty tissue underneath the skin and most closely mimic the actions of healthy ovaries and testicles with regards to hormone release into the bloodstream. The hormone pellet implantation procedure is easily performed in the office.

HORMONE PELLET THERAPY FOR WOMEN:

In studies, when compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to be extremely effective for relief of menopausal symptoms, maintenance of bone density, restoration of sleep patterns and improvement in sex drive, libido, sexual response and performance, relief of depression, anxiety, irritability, mood swings and many others, in both sexes.

The most common site of insertion is the upper buttocks. A small incision is then made for pellet insertion. Once the pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage. The estradiol kicks in on day three and the testosterone kicks in on day 7. The entire procedure takes only TEN MINUTES.

So, what is required prior to the placement of pellets. The following tests are required prior to placement of the first pellets. We will then retest at 6 weeks to see if a “booster dose” is required. Labs are NOT required subsequent times that the pellets are placed

Female Labs Required: Follicle Stimulating Hormone, Estradiol, Total Testosterone, Free T3, TSH, Total T4, TPO antibodies, Vitamin D, Optional (CBC, CMP)
