A New Therapy for Hair Loss in Men and Women
Thinning hair and hair loss for men and women can be a common occurrence as we age, and be no less demoralizing. Reasons can range from the simple and temporary-a vitamin deficiency-to the more complex, like an underlying health condition. The question remains- what options do we have when we are faced with thinning hair?
As a woman, Dr. Humble is keenly aware and sympathetic to patients who are experiencing hair loss as they age and was one of the original clinicians to work with PRP, and has been offering PRP as a treatment for Alopecia and thinning hair since it’s inception, when it was shown to be an effective treatment for hair loss.. She has been using PRP therapy in her offices since 2011 and can testify to the efficacy of PRP for Alopecia and thinning hair.
Platelet rich Plasma (or PRP) is a treatment that involves injecting a concentrated source of platelet rich plasma obtained from patient’s own blood to into an area of concern to promote tissue healing. PRP has been used not only for cosmetic purposes but also in treating orthopedic conditions such as degenerative joint conditions, tendonitis, plastic surgery, wound healing post surgery, or burn injury to name a few.
PRP contains not only high concentrations of platelets but also seven different growth factors that stimulates tissue regeneration, collagen production and formation of new blood vessels to the treated area.
In a recent study published by the US National Library of Medicine/National Institute of Health, it was stated that “…PRP has emerged as a new treatment modality in regenerative plastic surgery, and preliminary evidence suggest tat it might have a beneficial role in hair regrowth” .

Keeping your body “Tight”- Getting rid of unwanted fat
Most of you probably have wondered why we gain weight as we age, why we develop fat in unwanted places (bra rolls for instance), and why we cant eat like we used to, even though we work out more, and still lead an active lifestyle. There are many reasons, and there are many ways to confront the fat monster, thanks to more information being available, modern science, and recent technologies developed to combat that fat that we just cant seem to get rid of as we age.
Of course biology and changes in our bodies play a particular role in us developing fat in unwanted places (tummy, underarms). For instance, you may way the same you did when you were 25, but back then you had more muscle in your body because aging muscles contribute to the increase in the amount of fat we store in our bodies, since we lose muscle cells as we age.
Another reason is that the muscle cells that provide energy to our bodies just get worn out, and damaged with age, as does the bodies ability to repair damage that occurs. The good news is that exercise still helps build muscles, even into your 80’s and 90’s. Weightlifting, yoga, low impact exercises can be of great benefit.
Another place we experience unwanted fat as we age is under our chin. A recent study noted that 67% of people surveyed said they are bothered by the fat beneath their chin. This “submental fullness”, as it is called, can be caused by weight gain, genetics, or aging.
Fortunately, Allergan makes Kybella, the only FDA approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile, whether you have a moderate amount of chin fullness or a bit more.
See below for more information and special offers for Kybella.

Dont Let the Sun Catch You Cryin’…
Now that summers coming to a close, it’s time to think about the damage that’s been done to your skin by the sun over those long hot days. Exposure to sun causes most of the wrinkles and age spots on our faces. It’s ironic that we associate a glowing complexion with good health, but unfortunately that glow, if obtained from being in the sun accelerates the effects of aging.
In actuality, what causes most of the skin changes in us as we age is sun exposure. The sun’s UV rays damages elastin fibers under the skin. When they break down, the skin sags and loses it’s ability to bounce back (hmm, maybe why it’s called elastin, like elastic). It also takes longer to heal.
One of our favorite therapies to fight the ravages of sun is the COSMELAN DEPIGMENTATION MASK. It is possible to remove the anti-aesthetic skin blemishes and recover the smoothness of the skin, bringing back its luminosity, with a treatment that has a direct effect on the intimate formation process of the pigment (melanin). The cosmelan depigmentation mask does just that. Schedule a consultation and we will tell you more about this highly effective treatment and others to help heal the damage from the summer sun.
